Our bands are off to a great start and we’re getting all set for our first concert of the year which is coming up soon! I’m really impressed with the high caliber of Band students we have here at Mountain Ridge. They are truly a joy to teach every day. Our “Band Notes” contain important information you need to know. Remember to always check the MRJH BANDS WEBSITE for the most UP TO DATE INFO AND UPCOMING EVENTS.

PRACTICE RECORDS:
Practice records are due this week. Please make sure practice records are signed by a parent/guardian and the minutes are totaled before turning them in. Extra practice records are available in the band room or can always be downloaded from the band website at http://www.mrjhbands.org/practice-records.html. Beginning Woodwinds, Percussion and Brass only need to do 60 minutes/week on this term. They will need to do 90 minutes/week from here on. Thanks!
Some of the practice recordings are now available on the band website. These are great resources. Students can listen to them to see how their part goes and how it fits in with the rest of the band. When they get good at their parts, they can also play along with the recordings. There are also recordings of the rhythm and etude pass-offs.

JUNIOR HIGH ALL-STATE BAND:
This is the sixth year Utah will have a Junior High All-State Band which will perform in January at Abravanel Hall! Any Band student in Junior High can audition. This is a very prestigious group to be a part of and would look great on resumes and college applications. In the past, Mountain Ridge has had several students make it. Info and audition material can be found on the UMEA website at https://www.umea.us/all-state-junior-high-band Applications and audition video are due November 14th. Any 7th or 8th grader who makes the All-State Band will automatically be eligible for Symphonic Band next year. If you have a private teacher, have them work with you on this. You won’t want to miss out on this amazing experience.

THANK YOU!
Thanks for all you do to help your students and the MRJH Band program. It's been fun seeing old faces again and getting to know new ones. Our bands are off to a great start and are sounding good for this time of year. This year should be amazing!

Music students out-perform non-music on achievement tests in reading and math. Skills such as reading, anticipating, memory, listening, forecasting, recall, and concentration are developed in musical performance, and these skills are valuable to students in math, reading, and science.
